qualifies as an epidemic according to the national institute of health. here's what he just told cnn. >> if you look at the charts that the cdc put out on their website, it clearly has gone above that threshold, so we're into what would classically be described as a flu epidemic. it's still on the uptick, and usually when you're above that baseline in the flu season, you stay there for about 12 weeks. we're right now at about week five or so. so we still have a way to go. >> long way to go, it's expected to be the worst flu season in years. more than half of the states already reporting widespread t outbreaks and officials are saying the cases they're seeing are more severe than last year. emergency rooms across the country are overflowing. boston has declared a public health emergency. at least 2,000 people have been hospitalized. at least two people have died from the flu, and the center for disease control is going to release new numbers tomorrow. they priblth more than 50,000 may die from the flu this season. i spoke to dr. sanjay gupta, starting with the news that the flu is n

with cnn. which could explain why all we got from congresswoman joann emerson was the slam-door treatment. the southeast missouri republican is quitting congress. not because she lost. in fact, she just won her last election to her tenth term by a landslide. she's quitting because she landed a job back in what you might call the real family business, the politics of influencing congress. follow the lineage. in the '70s, joann emerson married a lobbyist bill emerson. wh he went on to become congressman from missouri, joann went on to become a lobbyist for the restaurant industry. when he died of cancer in 1996 she took his seat and served nine terms since then. while the combined emersons were spending 32 years in congress they were raiding two daughters, both of whom who are now registered lobbyists. now congresswoman emerson goes back to a trade association directing a team of lobbyists. >> it's the personification of the revolving door. >> reporter: kathy kyle we the sunlight foundation says it's a revolving door of lobbyists and politicians and staff members and big payoff jobs that er
